Some people
don’t want to believe it happened, others are proud of that: we have officially
become that generation that judges
people by their Instagram stories, that takes bathroom selfies as if someone
would care about their bathroom tiles. We are those who can write fifty
messages in one second. We are the snapchat generation. Nowadays young people seem
to have forgot how to write anything other than text messages and social media
posts, is it true?
Now, the
question naturally arises: can they even write texts and posts? Bc srsly, if u
write like this IDU anything. If that’s how teenagers are used to writing, I
can definitely see why not even them consider that as actual writing. When they
send a text they rarely revise what they wrote in order to be fast, so spelling
and grammar are often wrong. One critic called this kind of writing “penmanship
for illiterates”.
On the other hand, there are also positive
aspects. Firstly, teenagers are very fast when it comes to typing, and that’s amazing
because the problem is that, while you are writing a sentence, you often forget
what you wanted to write next. Teens don’t have these problems because they are
so fast they can easily keep up with their thoughts. Furthermore, they have a
huge amount of information from social medias that can be an inspiration for
their writing.
It is also
worth considering that young people have access to social networks such as Wattpad,
where they can share their works. Well, not all of them are good, but what is
important is that teenagers are pushed
into writing and it can be a good way to practice, also because there is the
possibility to exchange ideas and advices with other writers, which I find very
instructive.
All in all,
the snapchat generation has all the means needed to improve their writing and
this is a great advantage.
